Auckland producer Max Ashworth has been shaping his sound since stumbling into the US festival circuit in 2017. What started as drum and bass house parties evolved into something harder to pin down—bass-heavy constructions that pull from UK garage, breakbeat, and halftime without settling into any one lane. His work with Truth, Opiuo, and K+Lab speaks to a producer who knows the weight of sub-bass, while recent releases show him leaning into the grittier textures of the European sound. He's clocked stages at Shambhala, Lightning in a Bottle, and Texas Eclipse, building a reputation for sets that shift between cerebral and visceral without warning. The production is technical but never sterile—there's space in the arrangements, moments that breathe before the next wave hits. No gimmicks, just sound pressure and intention.

Wellington born, now Taupō based DJ, RUBY LOU has positioned herself as one of New Zealand’s well known underground artists, pushing the sounds of deep dub and heavy hitting bass. Taking pride in the art of mixing and creating sets that take listeners on a journey through different genres and BPMs. Her sets range from 140dubs to garage, techno, jungle and dnb. 

Inspired by the Sound System community and culture, being a member of the Port Dubs Collection (PDC). Ruby also draws inspiration from the likes of Neffa-T, Alix Perez and Paige Julia. Her technical ability makes her sets unmissable for anyone with respect to the craft. Ruby has played on support for many big name shows here in NZ including multiple 1985 MUSIC and BASEMENT shows, as well as festivals including NORTHERN BASS and Deep Hard n Funky. Supporting the likes of Ivy Lab, Monty, Visages, TRUTH, Alix Perez, Headland, Paige Julia, P Money (UK) and Mungos HiFi.

Christchurch duo Andre Fernandez and Tristan Roake have been refining their approach to sub-bass since 2007, back when dubstep was still finding its vocabulary outside London. Their 2010 debut Puppets established the template—spacious, meditative builds that hit harder for the restraint. No rushing the drop, no chasing trends.

They founded Deep, Dark & Dangerous in 2012, less as a label and more as a manifesto. Small rooms, proper sound systems, no visual distractions. The music carries the weight. Releases on Deep Medi and Tempa cemented their credentials in the UK scene, while their move between Portland and Christchurch kept them embedded in both hemispheres of bass culture. Tracks like "Devil's Hands" and their recent Deadbeats releases show a duo still working the same furrow—deep, minimal, physical. No compromises, no filler. Just low-end pressure and patience.
